Supporting Regional Ozone Control Efforts

Golden and the rest of the Denver Metro region continue to struggle with ground-level ozone pollution.

It's a particularly important issue to me, and something I've been working regionally on for some time. I am proposing that city council adopt a resolution expressing support for these regional efforts to safeguard public health from the harmful effects of ozone pollution.

Ozone pollution is particularly problematic for our kids, our older residents, and anyone with asthma or other respiratory conditions. Because of the region's ongoing ozone pollution levels, the Denver region (including Golden) is about to receive a formal "ozone non-attainment" designation from the federal government, and efforts are now underway to craft a plan to reduce our ozone pollution. This is an example of an issue that is fundamentally regional in nature, since the causes of the pollution for the most part originate outside of Golden yet Golden has some of the worst ozone pollution in Colorado. It's a particularly important issue to me, and something I've been working regionally on for some time. I am proposing that city council adopt a resolution expressing support for these regional efforts to safeguard public health from the harmful effects of ozone pollution.
